Jazz education with professor Jiggs Whigham at the Music Academy of Cologne along with classical trumpet education at the Conservatory of music in Mainz. In 1989, with the quintet "Cornichon", Eckhard was honoured as "best young jazz group of Baden-Württemberg". A professional career followed involving Timeless Art Orchestra Germany, Alexander`s Ragtime Band with saxophone veteran Benny Waters and numerous radio big bands in Germany and Switzerland.

In 1995 he landed in Oslo, diving straight into a seemingly endless series of musical projects: the Bobby Shew Trumpet Summit Norway, Nordic Pocket Big Band, and the untraditional Norwegian big bands Oslo Groove Company, Helge Sundes Ensemble DeNada and Geir Lysne Listening Ensemble. In addition, The Sinatra Songbook a happy, straight-ahead swing project and Bob Brookmeyer`s New Art Orchestra .

Eckhard Baur is a player most in demand wherever he chooses to be.
